Staff Mobility for Teaching: From Ghana to Kufstein
In May, the FH Kufstein Tirol welcomed a visitor from the African continent to its campus. Dr. Bella Bello Bitugu, Director of Sports at the University of Ghana, led the Entrepreneurship course in the International Program for 29 incoming students from numerous countries. "This mobility exchange is a step in the right direction concerning the North-South dialogue," says Dr. Bella Bello Bitugu. "Until now, the exchange between Ghana and Kufstein only went one way – my stay in Tyrol testifies to the desire for change from all participants. The preparation and support from the staff at the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein were excellent and very helpful." A return visit is planned for July when a lecturer from the Sports, Culture, and Event Management program at the FH Kufstein will travel to the African country.
International program
The Entrepreneurship course aims to introduce students to simple and essential theoretical perspectives of entrepreneurship and assist them in developing products in the field of sports tourism. A unique aspect of this course is that, while its core aspects focus on exchanging knowledge in entrepreneurship and sports tourism, the course uses examples and contexts from other parts of the world, particularly Africa, to give the topic a global and diverse perspective. FH Kufstein Tirol offers its incoming exchange students from worldwide partner universities a unique International Program, which consists of courses taught in English and designed specifically for incomings, in addition to regular courses from all degree programs taught at the FH Kufstein Tirol with English as the language of instruction. These regular degree program courses are attended by incoming and regular students and taught by internal lecturers and international guest professors.
About Dr. Bella Bello Bitugu
Dr. Bella Bello Bitugu is the director of the Sports Institute at the University of Ghana and an expert in sport for development, a worldwide initiative used to combat all forms of discrimination and racism in society. He was educated in Ghana and Austria and returned to Ghana after 20 years in Austria, where he taught at the University of Innsbruck for 15 years. Dr. Bella Bello Bitugu worked on projects funded by FIFA and UEFA, was a board member of Football Against Racism in Europe (FARE) until 2011, and coordinated several projects in the field of sport for development in Europe and Africa. Dr. Bella Bello Bitugu is the Ghanaian country director of Right To Play and chairman of the International Scientific Network for Sport for Development and Peace (ISNSD). He also serves as an advisor for the United Nations, the African Union, the Commonwealth, the European Union, the governments of Ghana and Austria, and others. He has several publications and development initiatives through sports to his credit.
